Reason For Nottingham Forest vs Bristol City Betting Tips

You have to go back to the first weekend in December for the last time either of these sides won in the Championship, so picking a more likely winner here isn’t easy. Forest have sacked their manager while Bristol City have kept faith with theirs and they did at least record an FA Cup win in midweek to stop the rot.

Lee Johnson will be hoping that the Robins’ 1-0 win at Fleetwood, in an FA Cup tie that had ‘upset’ written all over it, will prove a key turning point in their season. They’ve played some good football at times in recent weeks and have been scoring goals with Tammy Abraham looking once again in very good touch in front of goal. He has scored 5 goals in 4 games in the Championship and against a dodgy Forest defence, backing Abraham to score anytime at 6/5 could be well worth a punt here.

However, time and time again, they’ve let leads slip and have conceded late goals. They’ve conceded three goals in the last 20 minutes in each of their last 2 Championship games, to end up losing games 3-2 when they looked on course for maximum points. That could either be a fitness issue or more of a mental problem but either way they clearly have a major problem seeing games out and confidence will still be fragile despite that win in midweek with just 3 points now separating them from the relegation zone.

Forest aren’t in any better shape but their return of 2 points from their last 7 Championship games is still 2 more than Bristol City have managed over the same period. Both teams have scored in a massive 83% of their home games this term and the priority for whoever they appoint as their new boss will be improving a defence that is yet to keep a clean sheet at the City Ground.

They do score goals though and have bagged plenty in the 2nd Half of their home games this term. 67% of their home goals have come after the interval and they’ve netted 12 times in the final 15 minutes of Championship games this term which suggests they are well equipped to deal with Bristol City’s problems late on.

Given their opponents tendency to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory, backing Nottingham Forest to score more goals in the 2nd Half than the 1st Half at 7/5 looks like a cracking bet here.

Bristol City v Port Vale League One betting tips: Hosts aiming to win big

As league one kicks back into action, Port Vale travel to Ashton Gate to face Bristol City on Tuesday.

Despite a lull in the recent games, Bristol City have managed to stay on the top of the table. Bristol City’s recent FA cup clash against West Ham ended in a disappointing 1-0 loss at the Ashton Gate. It was a high intensity game and could have gone either way, but the visitors scored a late winner through Diafra Sakho to progress in the FA cup.

Bristol City then drew 1-1 at home against Gillingham in a game where both the goals were scored in the first half. Bristol City (8/15 at bet365 ) were the first to break the deadlock through Matt Smith but the visitors cancelled the opening goal in the 32nd minute with Jermaine McGlashan scoring a peach. A game which was poised beautifully for a thrilling second half, ended in a dull 1-1 draw.

Bristol City then travelled away and beat Fleetwood Town where Matt Smith and Jay Emmanuel Thomas anchored the team to a much needed victory. Bristol City’s recent game against Milton Keynes at the Stadium:MK ended in a bland, goalless draw.

Though Bristol City dominated in terms of possession and shots, Milton Keynes somehow managed to hold them. Karl Robinson also admitted that his team had a fair share of luck to help them stymie the table toppers.

Port Vale (6/1 at BetFred ) on the other hand are struggling in the league, considering their recent form. After a win against Peterborough United, Port Vale lost back to back games against Crewe Alexandra and Barnsley, both with a narrow margin of one goal.

However their recent game against Bradford City turned out to be a thrilling contest with both the teams scoring two a piece. A 90th minute penalty foe Port Vale ensured that they don’t fall prey to their third successive defeat.

Bristol City v Port Vale League One betting tips:

Bristol City to beat Port Vale 3-0 with Aaron Wilbraham scoring at least one for the home side. A drawn game for this one is on 7/2 at bet365.

Tip 1: Bristol City to win the match: 8/15 with bet365

Tip 1: More than +2.5 goals in the game: 4/5 with bet365

Bristol City pair Lee Johnson and Aden Flint scoop Sky Bet Championship Manager and Player of the Month awards

Bristol City have scooped both prizes for the Sky Bet Championship’s Manager and Player of the Month awards for September, with Lee Johnson named top boss and the players’ prize going to Aden Flint.

Johnson’s side took over as leading scorers in the Championship with 13 goals in six unbeaten games, which yielded 14 points. Even more impressive was that their September fixture list included visits to Reading, Wolves, Norwich and Ipswich.

Johnson said: “It was a very difficult September on paper but the boys have worked fantastically well. I accept the award on behalf of everybody, staff and players and, actually, fans as well because they’ve been part of our good form in September.”

Defender Flint scooped the Player prize for September. Transfer bids and speculation delayed his first start of the season, but he made up for lost time at both ends in September. Commanding at the heart of the City defence, his three goals earned points against Reading, Wolves and Bolton.

Flint said: “It’s been a good month for me but it’s been a great month for the club in general. With everything going on in the summer, ‘what’s happening?’, ‘where are you going to go?’ ‘am I staying?’ and not being in the team and such, I just got my head down, worked and tried not to let it bother me.”

Shrewsbury Town manager Paul Hurst has been named the Sky Bet League One Manager of the Month for September, while Portsmouth striker Brett Pitman won Player of the Month.

Only a late Blackburn equaliser denied Hurst’s Shrewsbury side a magical seven wins from seven games in the month. His superbly drilled team sit on top of Sky Bet League One.

Hurst said: “It’s a proud moment, the first award I’ve had as a Football League manager, but ultimately it’s the players’ efforts, in particular, along with the staff in the background that contributes to me as the manager getting this award.”

And Notts County manager Kevin Nolan picked up the Sky Bet League Two award, with Barnet’s Shaquile Coulthirst picking up the Player gong.

Nolan’s side were almost unstoppable in September, winning six successive games to jump to the top of Sky Bet League Two and collecting 18 points from a possible 21.

Nolan said: “This is an extremely proud achievement for me, my staff and my players, who have all made a massive contribution. There’s no way I could do this job without Richard Thomas, Mark Crossley and everyone who has supported me behind the scenes. They all thoroughly deserve this recognition.”

In fact, the visitors have managed just three points in their last 13 encounters with Harry Redknapp’s men.

Red hot Che Adams is 6/1 to follow up his sensational midweek hat-trick by bagging the opener for Blues against Bristol City.

Adams, who famously scored the winner against City to ensure Blues’ safety on the final day of last season, put Crawley to the sword with a finishing masterclass in the cup and will be hoping to continue in the same vein against a City side who haven’t beaten Blues since 1993.

In fact, the visitors have managed just three points in their last 13 encounters with Harry Redknapp’s men, reason enough to lump on the home side at what could look like a very big 29/20 come 5pm.

And while a home win is unlikely to see a repeat of ‘Arry’s touchline jig of joy the last time these two met, he’ll surely be relieved to get off the mark in his promotion push, for which Blues are 11/1.

Despite City’s poor recent record against the hosts, they have started the season in fine form with wins against Plymouth and Barnsley so it could be a tight affair, with 2-1 making some appeal at 17/2.

Both teams scoring in a home win looks tempting at 19/5, while a draw at half-time and a home win at full-time looks another good wager at 5/1.
